Who
What
The series will draw from Camille Sapara Barton’s Tending Grief and the Grief House’s sharing and embodiment practices. These embodiment practices and grief spills, paired with gentle chair yoga and will provide a container within which you can practice being with your grief in community.
Whether your grief is raw, angry, fresh, distant, removed, hard to access, you are welcome.
Our community grief embodiment journey will proceed as follows:
October 7th Orienting
November 4th Weaving Grief Into Life
December 2nd Taking Up Space
You are welcome to join us for all three monthly sessions this fall or just join us for one or two.
What to expect at each session:
- DuShaun will begin with grounding and movement to orient us into the space and practice.
- Sascha will lead us in a brief meditation and writing prompt, followed by a grief spill where you will be invited to share your grief, in whatever form it is showing up for you, in community with us.
- DuShaun will lead us in movement as we integrate our experiences.
Together, we'll create an intimate group with an intentional space for support and release. Our hope is that through this experience, you will find grounding, peace and healing and leave feeling refreshed, supported & connected to resources.
About DuShaun Branch Pollard
DuShaun has been practicing for almost 15 years and fell in love with yoga because it allowed her to find peace of mind while moving her body. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) through the Yoga Alliance and was certified through Bloom Yoga Studio in June of 2020. In addition, she received her 95-hour Children’s Yoga Certification from Mission Propelle in the summer of 2018 and was trained for Prenatal and Postnatal yoga with Amala School of Yoga. She is passionate about creating space for rest, for calm, and helping people find tools that work for them to releive and reduce stress.
DuShaun currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at North Central College in Naperville, IL. She also contributes her advocacy and mindfulness expertise as a trained restorative jjustice circle keeper and has been a community organizer in North Lawndale. She founded the Sage Gawd Collective in 2018 and continues to offer yoga programming and trainings for individuals, groups and organizations. About Sascha Demerjian
Sascha is a cofounder of the Grief House. The road she took to get here took her through a MSW from the University of Michigan, a PhD in Sociology from Emory University, several moves across the country, parenthood, pet parenthood, and so many deep connections and losses. At the Grief House she develops, supports and facilitates opportunities for people to be present with grief. She works to normalize grief and to invite and allow for messiness and joy along the way.
