We'll pour colored salt into clear jars and stories of our absent beloveds into each other's hearts. Come make something layered, bright and new from connections to love ones who aren't physically present and our connection to each other.

Who
What
This month at the Grief House we're gathering to tell stories and pour salt.
The activity is simple - we'll collect table salt, chalk, one long, thin stick and a clear jar. Then we'll sit (virtually) together to color the salt, pour it in layers and integrate the layeres in patterns that reach down through and dip into each other.Â
While we're pouring our salt we'll take turns telling stories about our loved ones who are missing. Whether they're absent because of death or dementia, divorce, or depression we'll spend a few hours holding and holding up the parts of them that live inside us. Each layer of color will be devoted to one story so, in the end, we'll have a visual reminder of what our hearts look like: complex, interwoven, deeply (and beautifully) layered.
For this event, gather:
1 container of table salt
red, blue and yellow chalk (thick sticks if possible)
1 large(ish) clear glass jar
1 thin stick that is a bit taller than your chosen jar
You might choose to come pour salt but not tell stories.Â
You might come to tell stories but not pour salt.
You might come and draw or knit or string beads or just sit quietly.Â
We welcome and support all variations on joining.
As always - this is a free event. If you are able to afford a $10 donation to our project we will be glad and grateful and will use it to continue to build this house, in which we hope you'll feel at home.
