Stitching Our Grief - Grief Quilting Gathering

Grief Quilts is a gathering space for grievers from Portland Grief House to share their stories and collaboratively create a quilt that captures stories and provides comfort at the house.

Who
What
During these gatherings we will have an opportunity to sit together while stitching and creating. Each panel will embody an individual grief experience - designed and personalized by the griever - capturing the emotions of a loss that is currently present for them. This can be accomplished by using fabric that feels connected to a loved one who has passed, by depicting a story with embroidery or fabric pens or paints and/or using a specific image applique.
Once all the panels are created, we will sew the individual stories together into a Community Grief Quilt. This finished quilt will live at The Grief House and travel to gatherings throughout the community to help keep mourners warm and comforted.
