Processing Grief Through Clay is a five week workshop for those interested in slowing down to create with clay while holding discussions around hardship, loss, acceptance, and peace that comes with creating. You will discover how to turn experiences of pain and loss into creations that ground you. 

Each week will include a lesson in ceramics and a focus-discussion topic with journal prompts to bring home. There will also be soup and tea as a part of the 1.5 hour class each week. 

Students can choose to pay to have their creations shipped or picked up at a later date. 

SPRING/SUMMER SESSIONS Tuesdays 6 pm - 7:30 pm  

Session One: Handbuilding  

Week 1 Focus Points Clay: Pinch pots and states of clay Discussion: Initial check in and states of self   

Week 2 Focus Points Clay: Attaching pieces of clay together Discussion: Human attachments  

Week 3 Focus Points Clay: Coil pots Discussion: Intrusive thoughts  

Week 4 Focus Points  Clay: Making candle holders Discussion: Establishing rituals   

Week 5 Focus Points  Clay: Glazing Discussion: Moving forward

Class size till be limited to 8 people. Together this small cohort will learn skills, open up and create the possibility for continued community after the series.

The price for this series is: 

Standard ticket - $150 + $10 materials fee - $160

Pay It Forward - $175 + $10 materials fee - $185

Community Ticket - $95 + $10 materials fee - $105

Finding Us

The Atlanta Grief House Nickerson Cottage at Legacy Park Decatur 500 S. Columbia Dr, Decatur, GA 30030 Notes on finding us: GPS will take you to the center of Legacy Park. The Nickerson Cottage is a stone building with raised bed gardens on the south side of Legacy Park's campus. If you enter campus through the south entrance it will be the first cottage you come to. You can park in any of the surrounding lots. If coming in the evening you will see the string lights on our front porch. Nickerson Cottage is largely wheelchair accessible.

The Grief House works on and serves communities on land that is the unceeded territory of the Muskogee, Cherokee and Creek peoples in Georgia and the Clackamas, Stl’pulmsh, Cayuse, Umatilla, Walla Walla and Siletz peoples in Oregon.

 

We honor them as we live, work and serve grievers on these unceeded lands.
