When & Where

Aug 19, 2023, 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Portland, 15115 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland, OR 97231, USA

Who

What

It's time for our (2nd) annual Summer Grief Carnival!!

This year we're throwing a coming out party for our Grief Creatures. What does yours look like? How does she sound? How is he soothed? Do they like to dance to hip hop music?

Our grief creatures are our allies - or they could be, if we let them. Given the chance, they'll process our loss and connect us to each other and all the mortal world.

So often we hide our Grief in the back room when guests come over or force it into dress clothes, mis-name it or deny its existance entirely. On this mid-summer day we'll spend time inviting it into the fold.

The Structure:

6:00

Gather, orient.

Park you car and head over to the hall. We'll show you where to drop off food, find drinking water and the COMPOSTING TOILET (which is in a lean-to. It's a very farm-y farm), and give you a rough lay of the land. You can take a wander, chat with a chicken or the willow, swing on some swings...

6:30

We will meet as a group to cast a cirle and pledge ourselves to each other, the land and all the creatures, living and otherwise, with whom we are gathered.

7:00 - sunset

We will roam!

Bring your creature to visit all the different offerings. Does she want to try tapping? Spend time with an oracle? Does he want to be bathed in song, moan in a greenhouse, wrestle? Is it art she needs? Do they want to practice dying? Here are the options as they currently stand:

Oracle card readings with Emi Stone

Burning Rituals with Melita Callahan

Tapping with Sarah Rennalls

Grief Art with Morrison Joy

Guided Savasana with Cary Spaeth

Dream Unraveling with Tina Tau

Song Baths with The Threshold Singers

Moaning and Wrestling with Laura Green

Plus:

dress up bins

writing stations

bouncing

swings

visits with the pond

we might pin the tail on something as of yet unnamed

eat shared food

FOOD!

Bring:

a dish to share with a tag that says what's in it

your own plate and fork/spoon

your own beverage in a thermos you can refill

We'll provide water all day and sweet things after dark.

Sunset:

We will gather.

We'll come back together in our circle.

We'll spill our grief and let it pool and merge.

We'll burn the things that are ready to go.

Darkness:

We will dance!

Every creature is invited to our DJ'd dace party;  all our loose, beautiful, good, troubling, strange, powerful, scared, generous Grief Creatures will let loose to the night-time tunes, however they feel moved.

If your creature isn't the dancing sort no worries. Outside we'll have storytelling and star gazing. Some tents will stay open after dark. And there's alway sitting quietly with the night.

Come to the carnival! You will be welcome - every one of you, every bit of you. I can hardly wait to see you all.

The Details:

Tickets:

$20 - standard price.

$30 (or more) - if you can afford it.

But Really - whatever amount makes sense. Let's take care of each other and be taken care of. Let's all be together.

This event welcomes all human creatures of every shape, age and orientation. It is on a farm - uneven footing and unpaved paths. We will do our best to make good space for all kinds of bodies but do know the terrain is rugged.

Please bring soft things to sit on if you think you might like them, protection from the sun if you feel you might need it and all the frieds/beloveds you wish to wrangle.

Please do not bring pets. We're so sorry.

Please plan to carry out all trash you bring in.
